Antique 1940’s American LaFrance fire extinguisher, brass nozzles, garden hose, pipe straps, billiard ball, doll eyes, wingnuts, acorn nut, sawtooth picture hangers, wooden tray, miniature firefighter helmet.
Jake is a fourth-generation firefighter, as well as a descendant of Truxton Slocum LaFrance, the founder of the American LaFrance Fire Engine Company, one of the oldest manufacturers of firefighting equipment and fire engines in the United States. Growing up in Southie he knew from an early age that he wanted to be a firefighter, and immediately after graduation from Boston Latin he attended the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy. He joined the Boston Fire Department and was assigned to the same company as his father, Engine 2/Ladder 19, just blocks from his home. Outside of work, Jake and his family were all passionate about fishing, and traveled to Martha’s Vineyard every fall to participate in the MV Bass & Bluefish Derby, and in 2017, his mother was the Grand Prize winner, with a 12.23 lb False Albacore from their boat “Blaze Buster”. That was not, however, the biggest catch of the trip, as Jake met his future wife Liz, an art teacher and volunteer firefighter, at the weigh station. Jake and Liz were married at the Ag Hall, and Jake now works as a firefighter at the Martha’s Vineyard Airport and as a highly sought-after fishing guide. Avid art collectors, Jake and Liz can often be spotted at The Old Sculpin Gallery, Featherstone Center for the Arts, and The Galaxy Gallery!
